Ferrucio
Lamborghini was born on April 28, 1916, in the small Italian farming
village of Renazzo di Cento, Ferrara. From an early age he showed a keen
aptitude for anything mechanical and was far more attracted to a life of
engineering than one of farming. Leaving The community after a short time,
he headed for Bologna where he obtained a degree in industrial
engineering. The outbreak of the Second World War shortly after that saw
him drafted into the Italian services on the island of Rhodes where, owing
to his strong powers of ingenuity, he was set to work on vehicle
maintenance in an area affected more than most by the problems of poor
supply. Even when the island was captured by the allies his talents were
realised and he was set to work on the repair of their vehicles. When at
last hostilities ceased, Lamborghini turned his attention to producing
tractors to help raise his country to its feet after suffering the
devastation of war years. Initially his work involved the building of
tractors from spare parts and materials he could obtain from the numerous
abandoned army camps and surplus stations and his first tractor, so built,
emerged in 1947. That is how it all started. After owning a Ferrari and a
Masserati , being very unsatisfied with the level of service there, he
started his own business to what it is now. A factory where the most
beautiful sportscar is produced.
